John Franklin Hollopeter
Frank was born on February 9, 1951 on the family farm near Ladora, Ia. to Charles and Laura Slaymaker Hollopeter. He attended rural school and graduated from Ladora High Shcool with the Class of 1950. From 1952 to 1954, he served with the United States Army in Korea.
On September 6, 1952, he was married to Dolores Bowman in Victor. The couple farmed in the Ladora area and later moved to Victor. He operated the county farm in Iowa County and later worked as a janitor and bus driver for H.L.V. School District.
Frank was a member of the Ohio Methodist Church, the Ladora Saddle Club, a charter member of the MIDA, the Victor American Legion and the former IOOF Lodge in Victor. His hobbies included restoring antique tractors, participating in tractor-cades across Iowa, and driving draft horses. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Hollopeter of Victor; his children, Allen (Kristin) Hollopeter of Deep River, Terry Hollopeter of Iowa City, Leah Ann (Derry) Gray of Victor, Laurel Hollopeter of Victor, Marcia (Eric) Kirkpatrick of Nichols and Sherril (Ed) West-Swim of Tiffin; ten grandchildren; one great grandson; one sister, Betty Hollopeter of Ladora; and three brothers, Dean (Beatrice) Hollopeter of Ladora, Charles (Jo) Hollopeter of Williamsburg and Floyd Hollopeter of Ladora.
Frank died on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He was 78 years of age and was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Lawrence; and two sisters, Hazel and Mary Hollopeter.
He will be greatly missed by all of his friends here at MIDA.
